kalina_blue's request for a Draco/Hermione fic at
hp_wishes, with the above prompt.
“So, I don't get it, what's the point?” asked Draco, staring at the pans, pots, jugs and plates Hermione had got out.
“It's enjoyable, Draco! And you don't need to use your wand for everything,” replied Hermione, bending down to turn the oven on.
“Sure makes life a lot easier...” muttered Draco, leaning against the kitchen wall, still bemused by Hermione's love of cooking.
“I heard that.”
“Well I said it out loud.”
“You will learn if it's the last thing I do. And anyway, you can't complain, you want to.”
“Only because Harry thinks he's so good at everything,” Draco was resentful of the fact that Harry was a top notch cook, and Hermione loved his food. Upon seeing Draco's jealousy, Hermione had offered to teach Draco, and reluctantly he had agreed, if only to show Harry he could beat him at his own game.
“Look, come here. You can hardly bake cakes if you're nowhere near the counter,” said Hermione sharply, dragging Draco to stand next to her. Hermione passed Draco a tin and told him to get started.
“What am I supposed to do with this?” Draco grabbed the tin from Hermione's grasp, “is it a hat?” he said, going to put it on his head before Hermione snatched it off him.
“No, it is not a hat! And you follow the instructions. That's what the cookbook is there for. See, the one in front of you, open at the right page too.”
“How to make fairy cakes?” Draco read the title of the page out loud. “I'm not a woman Hermione!”
“No, but they're cute, and we all know you can be sweet sometimes.”
“What do you mean 'we all'? You better not have told those friends of yours.”
“I'm busy sorting the oven out here, Draco. Get the butter out of the fridge and starting buttering the tin, please,” she said in her 'Hermione know it all' voice. Draco made a face behind her back.
“What with?”
“Tinfoil!” Hermione was irritated now, “can't you read? Right, the oven is preheating, look, here, i'll show you what to do.” Hermione snatched the tin and the tinfoil out of Draco's hand's and rubbed the butter onto the tinfoil, then rubbing it round the inside of the tin. “There. Now you can carry on.”
“What? But you started...”
“Yes, and you're learning. It's no easy ride with me, Draco!”
“I seem to have noticed that,” he groaned, taking over from Hermione's job.
As soon as Draco had finished, Hermione grabbed the tin, clearly impatient, and beat the butter and sugar with a wooden spoon until it looked fluffy enough.
“Add the egg, whisk it, add the flour – by sifting it mind – and then add milk, oh, and more flour if needed.”
“How am I supposed to know if needed?”
“It'll look right.”
“Yeah, 'cos I know what fairy cakes are supposed to look like before they're even made,” smirked Draco at Hermione's simple view of the world.
Soon enough, Draco and Hermione were getting the cakes out of the oven; they looked and smelled lovely.
“You first, since I made them all by myself,” jokedDraco, sitting down, quite sure of himself that Hermione would love them more than she loved Harry's.
Hermione took a bite of the cake but as soon as she had put it in her mouth, she was spitting it back out again.
“Ugh, Draco! You used salt instead of sugar!” Hermione laughed; she had never seen Draco turn a brighter shade of red.

Anyway, I LOVE the drabble. Draco is so funny and adorable. Not to mention he's completely in character. And I love how bossy Hermione is. Great, great work. Thanks so much for writing this for me.

And Draco is so adorably in character, and Hermione is of course so bossy yet does everything herself. It's perfect!
