This is for all the Buffy and Harry Potter authors on my friends list. The original post talks about Buffy and Doctor Who, but when I followed the link, I saw that Harry Potter fandom is affected as well. I don't personally use fanfiction.net, but I know that some of you do.

If these numbers are correct, fanfiction.net just deleted roughly 12% of all Buffy and Doctor Who fic on there with no warning, no chance for writers to correct the perceived problems, and with temporary bans for those who get their stories deleted. Going by some comments I've seen, most have been removed either for using non-grade-school-friendly words in their summaries or for including "love scenes" that aren't considered "tasteful" (their words), but that's not the only thing they go by; one fic was apparently removed for including the word "killed" in its summary. One or two people have reported having their stories reinstated after mailing support, others have gotten rude replies that basically boil down to "RTFM, STFU." Personally I haven't gotten any reply at all after three days.

It might also be interesting to note that ff.net have blocked the possibility to export fics to AO3.

If you want to back up your ff.net stories and reviews, Storymaster seems to work pretty well.

They deleted one of my stories. Luckily it was a drabblebut it still upsets me. No heads up so I can fix the problem?It's stupid. I wish I had compained when I got the email informing meit was taken down. I guess it's too late now.

...What the ever-loving hells? They'd hate our HP fic. And my Diablo II fic (filled as it is with the slaughtering of hellspawn :P ). Good thing I haven't used FF.net since like... 2003. That's just DUMB.

Yeah, it's ridiculous! I have some of my stories posted there, but can't remember which, and they've always been more on the adult side of things, so I'm surprised they've not been taken down (though relieved! I never even knew until now they didn't allow mature content!)

Thanks for the heads up! I just finished screencapping all my reviews to save them for posterity. Other than that, most of my stories are on LJ, and they are all saved in Word docs on a flash drive, so whatever. I hate ff. I just use it for my Grey's stories cause more people there review them. lol

You're welcome :) That's a good idea! I think I'll do that too :) All my fics (except for recent ones, which I need to post!) are hosted here and AO3, and other places too sometimes. I haven't posted to FF.net in a while, and don't even remember what's on there...

I got some stuff deleted off of there. And I mean, for stupid things. Because I had a PG story that had the word 'Bitch' in it once. I just checked and it was a PG-13 story. I mean, seriously? I'm considering just deleting my entire account. I'm already annoyed with the site in general. I get the stupidest, most random reviews for shit I wrote when I was like thirteen about how the grammar sucks. Yeah, of course it sucks, it was written like thirteen years ago (geeze, I'm old).

(I think I have two long stories on there that aren't on LJ, meh, I'm too lazy to move them)

I haven't updated my account in two years cause...it is too much of a faff to update and change all my coding tbh. I'm not surprised though. They have always said if there were sex scenes then stories would get deleted. I've actually been surprised a few times that some stories had survived up on there. It is picky but, I kind of get where they are coming from at the same times. Problem with this sort of general deletion is far too many get swept away that if looked at individually would probably survive.

Deja vu! I'm pretty sure I remember this kind of thing happening on FF net in about 2002. That's when they stopped allowing NC-17 stories, looks they're getting even stricter now! Anyway, when that happened before I started using other sites for my fic and only put the fluffiest, tamest ones on FF net. I just had a look at my account on there and to be honest I can't even remember what I had on there so I don't know if they deleted any of mine.

Aye! There's something about a group that's formed going round and reporting fics to get them deleted :\ I haven't updated in ages and can't remember what's on there, though the fact that mature content wasn't allowed apparently escaped me!
